Since opening in 1984, the Monterey Bay Aquarium has maintained a focus on education, providing free visits for over two million schoolchildren. Our Field Trip programs are designed for students to learn, have fun and discover their connections to the ocean while exploring the Aquarium's exhibits and programs.

Field Trips

Reservations for the 2017–18 school year are now open.
PreK–College Teachers: Schedule a school group to visit June 17, 2017–August 31, 2018.

We offer Field Trips for students PreK through college. To be eligible for a free field trip, school groups (with the exception of PreK) must be visiting in conjunction with a regularly scheduled class for which they receive a transcript grade or comparable academic credit. Reservations must be made at least two weeks prior to the visit date.

Home School Program

Our flexibly structured Home School Program is designed for families to learn together while exploring the Aquarium's exhibits and programs.

Other Groups

Youth Groups, School Clubs and Extracurricular Groups

Includes school clubs, bands, choirs, athletic teams, debate teams and all other extracurricular activity groups. Also includes Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, summer enrichment programs, etc. These groups are eligible for discounted price for youth and free admission for a number of chaperones.

Low-Income Groups

Includes low-income, at-risk and underserved children, adults and families through the government agencies and nonprofit social services organizations which serve them. Qualifying organizations are eligible for complimentary admission through our Free to Learn program.

Adult Education Groups

Includes adult parenting classes, adult literacy classes and post-secondary classes for special needs adults. These groups are eligible for complimentary admission for all adult students and instructors.

College Class Groups

Includes groups visiting in conjunction with a regularly scheduled class for which they receive a transcript grade or comparable academic credit. These groups are eligible for complimentary admission for all college students and instructors. MUST enter as a group to get complimentary admission.
